The Lotus Table Lamp is a sculptural lighting piece originally designed by Italian glass artist Carlo Nason in 1969 and later reissued by GUBI. Inspired by the unfolding petals of a lotus flower, the lamp features four individually mouth-blown glass shades nested within one another to create a layered, flower-like silhouette. Each shade is crafted using the traditional pulegoso glassmaking technique, which introduces thousands of tiny air bubbles into the glass, producing a textured, semi-opaque surface. When illuminated, the overlapping glass layers gently diffuse the light, creating a soft glow while revealing variations in transparency and the intricate arrangement of the shades. A precisely engineered steel structure with a black chrome finish supports the glass components, providing a dark metallic contrast to their luminous surfaces.
