MR01 Initial Chair

From a young Danish designer and trained cabinetmaker comes a carefully crafted lounge chair fashioned without a single nail. Mathias Steen Rasmussen starts with a low-slung, gently inclining seat which extends into the back leg and provides support for the backrest. In solid American walnut or oak, MR01's wedged tenon joints go right through the frame and 4 out its 5 cross bars are identical, simplifying construction and reducing waste. Ninety meters of rope are then hand-woven for the seat, using a method Mathias developed himself, for a eloquent play of organic materials.
