In 1962, Karimoku made its first in-house chair — a compact, button-tufted lounge seat upholstered in vinyl, sold as contract furniture to inns and hospitals across Japan. It never left production. Forty years later, designer Kenmei Nagaoka brought it to the general public through 60VISION, his cross-industry initiative to revive the founding products of Japanese manufacturers, and Karimoku was the first company to join.
