Unalloyed modernism flourished in the 1970s, as seen in this update of Lluís Porqueras' quintessential Funiculí lamp from 1979. Renowned for the absolute simplicity of his approach, the Spanish designer based his concept on funicular action—moving the light up and down by a simple pair of clips. Meanwhile, the shade rotates 360 degrees to direct radiant light wherever needed, aimed downward for reading or upward for general reflected illumination. Base and stem of the lamp in lacquered iron with shade made of lacquered aluminum; a rubberized bottom adds stability to the lamp while protecting floor surface.
