The no-nonsence values of Scandinavian design are inherent in the Pull Floor Lamp, designed by the Stockholm-based design studio WhatsWhat for Danish house Muuto. Demonstrating that an impressive sum is greater than its humble parts, the Pull achieves its up-front functionality with a remarkable economy of finely-crafted elements: an oiled-oak stand, white cloth-covered shade and a partly-exposed, partly-hidden cord that adjusts the position of the LED light source. "Moving the shade not only changes the light, but also the character of the lamp," say WhatsWhat designers John Astbury, Bengt Brummer and Karin Wallenbeck—who scored the Muuto Talent Award for this piece when they were still design students.
