Spider's high-tech impression was ahead of its time at its 1965 unveiling by Italian designer Joe Colombo. The floor lamp's unique look comes from a box-like lacquered aluminum reflector ingeniously configured for a special horizontal spot lightbulb. Mounted on a chromium-plated stem, the adjustable light tilts as needed. Spider is part of the permanent collection of the Milan Triennale and was also featured in the memorable 1972 exhibit, “Italy: The New Domestic Landscape” at MoMA in New York.
