With works teetering between art and design, and known for a rebelliously playful and clever spin, Maarten Baas is considered among the most important Dutch creators in modern design. So it’s no surprise his work is part of the collections at MoMA and the V&A. His flatware for Antwerp-based Valerie Objects adheres to his ethos. The unusually jagged edge of the knife of this flatware collection gives it a Brutalist sharpness all its own. The undulating surfaces of the handles counter the “flat” in flatware. Service for 4, with each place setting of knife, fork, tablespoon and coffee spoon available in a choice of dishwasher-safe finishes, and contained in a wooden box.
