Description
Castor Design's Oil Lamp started as an eco-friendly spin on lighting commonly used before the rise of electricity. The Toronto-based studio wanted a modernist totem to stand the test of time, as oil lamps outlast electrical models with their degradable wiring. Partners Brian Richer, an architectural stone carver with an English degree, and Kei Ng, an architect and set designer, also brought a sense of offhand irreverence to their collaboration with legacy Canada maker Harnisch. Absent of any typical ornamentation, the lamp's timeless cylindrical shape is finished in edgy black chrome.
