A+R: Global Design.Edited.

A+R is an independent and internationally renowned resource for new modern furnishings, lighting and décor, servicing private and trade clients worldwide on residential, commercial and hospitality projects. Some of the now-highest profile names in the modern design marketplace had the space and support to develop at A+R, and that willingness to take chances since it opened its tiny first shop in late 2005 continues now with exclusive launches and appearances at its latest and largest-to-date address at ROW in downtown Los Angeles.

A+R riffs on “artist & repertoire,” the music industry shorthand for the talent scouts who work tirelessly as mentors, promoters and liaisons between creators and the world.

As a former film editor, co-founder Andy Griffith hones a life-long bent to scout, edit and to share—powered by the narrative behind each item, each designer and brand. To the design enthusiasts who comprise the A+R team, the global design community is defined less by geographic or cultural boundaries, and instead bound by the pursuit of aesthetics and innovative ideas.

The constant at A+R is design that functions as much as it moves.

At 7,500-square-feet, the ROW location serves as both showroom and event space for the design community, complete with a full kitchen and other amenities. This is a far cry from its debut space in L.A's arty enclave known as Silver Lake at the end of 2005. Within the year, aplusrstore.com went live. By the next autumn of 2007, A+R appeared on Abbot Kinney in Venice, playing a leading role in that area's revival. With a deeper dive into furniture and lighting, a new location was opened in October 2012, on La Brea Boulevard, near Hollywood. A swift expansion into the trade and contract market, which now accounts for the majority of A+R’s business, necessitated a new base. And in June 2017, A+R relocated its sole showroom and headquarters, under one roof, at the downtown LA campus known as ROW.

The bright individuals who make up the expanding, collaborative A+R team in LA, Austin and the DC area, reflect the diversity we champion in our design offerings: an array of talent and skills; a handful of languages spoken; open minds to a world of ideas and pursuits; and a genuine desire to share our penchant for original, quality design. That is why we place such a priority on customer service, including maintaining a fierce independence that allows us to act nimbly and directly on the full range of client needs.

The A+R showroom is a home away from home, and we welcome you into our indoor-outdoor space to experience, firsthand, our edit of the best new design from around the world. It’s also here where creators visiting from London, Copenhagen, Shanghai, Hawke’s Bay and our hometown of Los Angeles, share their process and their dreams during annual events. It is where we break bread with architects, interior designers and other creatives over delicious meals, cooked up in our onsite kitchen by Andy or by a visiting chef pal. Or where we toast a new collection during a happy hour for 2 dozen or 200 industry colleagues. It is also one of the liveliest and longest-running anchors of the Los Angeles Design Festival.
