Description
Artist-designer Jaime Hayon nabbed a coveted Wallpaper Design Award for Lightolight, a clever wall lamp that employs an LED light source and a rotating dome to create changeable indirect illumination. The colorful family features a metallic cup that bounces light off of the shallow dome that matches the fixture's structure in blue, black, red or green lacquered steel. Handcrafted by maker Parachilna in Barcelona, it can be mounted to reflect up or down and is apropos for both residential and hospitality settings.

Brand
Parachilna
Though based in Barcelona, Parachilna’s origins actually stretch all the way to its namesake, a desert ghost town in Australia. A random stop there years ago inspired Alfredo Valero and Roman Riera to eventually create a luxury lighting company dedicated to enduring craftsmanship, aided by European metalsmiths, glass blowers, ceramicists and other skilled artisans.
Collaborating with such notable modern designers as Jaime Hayon and Neri & Hu, partner Alfredo explains Parachilna’s purposeful process. “We don’t use industrial techniques,” he says. “Everything revolves craftsmanship, which means that there is a lot of work, from prototyping to finishing. When we say, ‘We don’t like it,’ we start all over again.”
Designer
Jaime Hayon
"Humor reflects very much who I am…my character," says Spanish-born designer Jaime Hayon, known for his bold and whimsical design sense. As a teenager in the 1970s, he submerged himself in skateboard culture and graffiti art and then opted to study industrial design in Madrid and Paris. Joining Fabrica, the Benetton-funded design and communication academy, he began working closely with legendary image-maker and agitator Oliviero Toscani. After heading up the Fabrica design department, Jaime broke out with his own collections of designer toys, ceramics and furniture.
A rock star in the design world with studios in Italy, Spain and the UK, Jaime's client list includes Camper, Baccarat, &Tradition and Established & Sons. He’s particularly known for tabletop objects—his irreverent approach kickstarted heritage porcelain house Lladró. Numerous awards from the likes of Icon Magazine, Wallpaper Magazine and Elle Decor (Spain) attest to his sway. "People will always look for objects that inspire them," he says, "that make them dream."
